The symposium will be held in Hotel Jaizkibel in Hondarribia (Basque Country). Special rates have been negotiated with hotels (see information below).
Hondarribia
Today Hondarribia is a small city (16000 located at the mouth of the Bidasoa river, in a particularly beautiful and calm landscape. But its strategic location, on the border with the neighbouring kingdom of France, meant that it played a highly prominent role in wars over the centuries.
The town was built on a small hill overlooking the bay, in a strong defensive location, and was considered the key to the kingdom: the stronghold that had to be conquered by anyone seeking to move into Castile.
Its urban centre still contains many vestiges of its heroic past, as we will have the chance to see, and it is the only well-preserved stronghold in the Basque Autonomous Community.Gipuzkoa’s best-preserved walled city. Its extensive walls contain a medieval layout with ancient and noble buildings, narrow streets, cobblestones… heritage and history.
Today, Hondarribia ‒the city’s sole official name since 1980‒ has 16,500 inhabitants, rising to 40,000 in the summer.

Transportation Options
Hondarribia is located 3 km far from San Sebastian airpott. There are taxis available there.
Another option is to travel by plane to Biarritz (France) and take a taxi from Biarritz (34 km).
French trains also stop in Hendaye located 2 km from Hondarribia (you can pick a taxi from there also).
Trains are also running from Madrid or Barcelona to Irun (6 km from Hondarribia) where you can pick a taxi.
